Feel Good Power Brunch

So I haven't been feeling 100% the past week or so, and it has been really cold.
So this morning I decided I needed some healthy feel good comfort food.
Normally when I think of a comfort food breakfast,
I think of bacon, eggs, home fries, biscuits and gravy.

So I had to make that healthy ...
The eggs I can keep, the potatoes are gone.
No bacon but I will use bacon fat!
For a biscuit/grits substitute I will use Quinoa flakes.
And it will all be piled on top of sauteed spinach/peppers and onions

The peppers and onions cooking.

Quinoa flakes with bacon fat, butter, garlic and Parmesan.

Flour and bacon fat/coconut butter then

add milk to make an awesome gravy!

That meal was amazing, it really did the trick.
For dinner I will have a bowl of chicken quinoa soup!

Chicken Quinoa Soup!

Today calls for Soup! Chicken Quinoa Soup to be exact.

 Yes, I actually Rotisserie'd a chicken!
Was a bit of a pain but well worth it!
I made a gluten free gravy with the chicken pan drippings.
Going to add to the soup to thicken it.

Used only the white meat.

The 21 day Sugar detox is over!

Wow those three weeks went by quick!
Now that the detox is over I can start enjoying sweets sparingly.
Decided to enjoy some dark chocolate infused with Chili!

Other snacks I enjoy are nuts and dried fruit,
that's my go to snack when I want something sweet.

Right now I am having trouble keeping up with my exercise goals.
I guess it's the cold weather.
Trying not to let it get me down but I know I need to be doing more.

I am also eating 2 meals instead of just 1 as was planned
but I will be doing that starting in February.
I am loving creating meals that are mostly veggie based.
I have probably cut my meat consumption in half, and the meat I do eat has been ground turkey.

I will try to keep this blog updated with meals I make and my progress going forward.

Cashew Cheese Dip/Spread

Sliced Apple with Cashew Cheese, Coconut Milk Cream, Sunflower Seed Butter.
Fresh Nutmeg sprinkled on top.

Product Spotlight - Quinoa Flakes and Mini Ovens

So the mini convection oven we ordered came today and its amazing.
It does convection baking, normal baking, broiling and rotisserie.

I decided to give it a test and cook up some Kale Chips with the convection setting.

Seasoned them with Coriander, Curry, and Smoked Paprika. Salt and Pepper as well.

They came out perfect and quick! Yes I tried one! First chewing in 9 days!

I also found Quinoa Flakes, a great option for hot cereal as well as many other uses.

I made a hot smoothie with this mixed with Kefir, Cinnamon, and Maple Syrup!

Day 9 - The fast is over!

The juice fast is over and I am feeling great! I will be drinking smoothies
for the next 3 days and trust me, drinking smoothies is not fasting.
Those 5 days were tough but I do not regret 1 day of it.
I am looking forward to healthier eating going forward.
I need to cut down on meat and cheese. That is my main goal.

As far as exercise goes I will be trying to wake up with an exercise routine.
I will also be on the treadmill for at least 30 mins daily.

I will also try to keep this blog updated with my progress as
well as any other interesting tips and tricks I come across.

My next post will probably be in a few days when I start eating solid food again.
Talk to ya then! =)

Total weight lost = 10 lbs.

Day 8 - Last day of juicing.

So today I feel great. Woke up refreshed and ready to start the day. I am back down to 185 lbs.

This morning I went to the store to refill on water and pick up some produce.

I decided to end the juice fast with some more fruit centered juices
and I picked up some interesting stuff to juice.

I got Pineapple, Crisp Pink Apples, Sweet Potato, Persimmon, Starfruit,
Fennel, Grapefruit, Orange, Carrots, Cucumber, Celery, Grape Tomato, Ginger and Kale.

The first juice I made included the Sweet Potato, Grapefruit, Carrot, Orange and Persimmon.

I drank that then juiced a pineapple and some fennel on top of the left overs and saved that for tomorrow.

My Green juice for the rest of the day included, Apple, Ginger, Celery,
Cucumber, Kale. Fennel, Sweet Potato, Star Fruit, Lemon, Lime and Tomato.

I also picked up some coconut milk and Kefir for the smoothies that start tomorrow!

I am glad the juicing is almost over, as long as you can keep your mind busy
and you transition correctly it can be a very enjoyable experience.
I never regret my juice fasts, it's just really tough those first few days.

Days 6-7 - Ready for the juicing to end...but I CAN DO IT!

So yesterday was not easy. It was bitter cold, I was starving, and just not feeling well. So this time around it was day 3 that was the worst. Usually it's day 2 but I guess there were still more toxins that needed to come out. I was back on the toilet after a break on day 2. I got trapped in my head thinking about food and planning on cutting this juicing short.

But then I got an email from my sister that inspired me to keep going. She had just finished a 3 day smoothie cleanse, her first cleanse! So as I am writing this I plan on going the full 5 days only juicing. I do feel better today and thankfully it will be warming up the next couple of days. Tomorrow I will be going to the store to refill my reverse osmosis water jug. While there I am going to shop for my last day of juicing as well as my first days of smoothies! Going to pick up some citrus and maybe some fennel and pineapple. I also need frozen berries and mango as well as bananas.

Preparing my detox tonic for the upcoming smoothie days.

Thinking about it now, it would have sucked falling short 1 day, I CAN DO IT!

Weight update:

Day 1 - 195lbs
Day 4 - 190lbs
Day 7 - 188lbs

Day 5 - It's going to get cold!

Another day of sleeping in. These juicing days I will be limiting my
exercise and sleeping more than normal. So today I got up at 9:30.
Felt fine, was eager to start my juicing for the day.
As I was preparing my produce, my mom put a pork roast in the oven....

So all day I get to smell pork roasting, yay.
Who knows maybe it will help. It's like eating through my nose!

Same routine the rest of the day, teas and more juice.

I am writing this around 11:30 am and its 52 degrees outside.
By midnight tonight it will be 2 degrees. It's getting cold!
The next few days while I finish my juice I am going to snuggle up
and try to keep myself warm and relaxed.

Hunger is starting to set in but it's not too bad. I can't seem to stop thinking about food
though which is driving me crazy, I need to find something to keep my mind off of it.

I should be able to pick up exercise on the last day of juicing or the first day back on smoothies.

Day 4 - Juice time!

Feeling pretty good this morning after my relaxing super detox day.
Actually woke up on time and out of bed by 9 am.
Going to the store first before I make my juice for the day.

After the trip to the store I am stocked well for the next 5 days.
I really do enjoy the ritual of juicing for some reason.
I also like the taste and the drinking of meals.
At the health store I found a nice detox liquid.
I wanted just a detox and not a colon cleanse.
I will use tea for a mild laxative but to be honest,
it seemed like I naturally cleansed my colon with those smoothies.
I am going to try to do some activity today but if I don't it's not a big deal.

Day 3 - Feelin' It!

This morning I slept an extra 2 hours and got up at 10:30 am. It's really cold and I wanted to stay snuggled up in my blankets. I also just felt like I needed it. Lost 5 lbs of sugar bloat already.

My wake up exercise was a little shorter than normal at around 15 mins total. Followed by Green Tea and writing. I will be relaxing today but I do plan on getting on the treadmill for 30 mins.

I am going to create a few supplement drinks along with my smoothies today, which is the last day before going to all juice for 5 days. Today is going to be SUPER DETOX DAY!

Website and Product Spotlight

Day 2 - The cleansing has begun!

Woke up to my cat making a mess which forced me out of bed.
It knocked its wheat grass pot off the window and I had to clean it up.
I get to enjoy that wheat grass now ....

After the clean up I found myself needing to sit on the toilet,
a regular occurrence after yesterdays green smoothies.
But hey that's what I want, to get that junk food out of me.

I prepared my green tea with lime then started my Wii Fit routine.
I decided to mix it up and not do Yoga every day. Wii Fit has some routines that mix in games.
The key is to not get bored and that's a good way to prevent the boredom.
At 10:30 I relaxed and drank my tea, while writing this blog.

At Noon I created a Detox tonic with Rooibos Chai, Lime,
Wheat Grass, Maple Syrup, Royal Jelly Honey, Ginger.

At 1 pm I walked for an hour on the treadmill. 2pm was a Green Smoothie.
5pm Wii Tennis followed by another Green Smoothie.

Day 1 - 10 lbs gained over the holiday's!

Woke up this morning 10 lbs heavier than I was before Thanksgiving.
Now I know most of it is bloat due to sugar and gluten, I figure I gained about 5 lbs of actual weight.

It freaked me out a little but I know it will be gone soon. Gave myself a few extra hours of sleep in preparation of the diet change and exercise.

So I got started around 10am with Yoga. A little Wii Tennis.
Then Earl Grey Green Tea with Lime. Also enjoyed a Rooibos Chai.

Went shopping for produce at 12pm.
At 1pm I had my first smoothie. Banana, Mango, Pineapple
along with my Super Green Protein Blend which includes,
Pea and Whey proteins, Chia, Wheat and Barley grass, Propolis and Bee Pollen, and more.

At 2 pm I walked 3 mph at a 3 incline for 60 mins.
Took a shower.
6 pm was the 2nd smoothie.

Relaxing evening of TV and gaming.

Day 1 done.
